Why I Stopped Looking at Unit Price: A True Lesson in Total Cost of Ownership with Mitsubishi Electric Products

But Isn't Unit Price Still the Easiest Metric?

Of course it is. That's the trap. People argue that "you can't have a detailed TCO for every $5 item." I agree. But for anything above $50, or anything that could cause downtime or rework, you need to think beyond the sticker. The 'always get three quotes' advice ignores the transaction cost of vendor evaluation and the value of established relationships. I'd rather pay a slightly higher unit price to a trusted Mitsubishi Electric distributor who provides manuals in English, ships on time, and backs their product with warranty support.

Reaffirming the View: TCO Is the Only Number That Matters
